A winter storm is currently moving into Mississippi and roads in some areas may become impassible and numerous extended power outages are expected.
Jan 23 (Reuters) - Snow fell over parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas on Friday in a frosty prelude to a monster winter storm expected to converge with bitter Arctic cold and engulf much of the United States over the weekend from the Rockies to the Eastern Seaboard.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the weekend, predicting 9-14 inches of snow.
Following the storm, temperatures will get even colder Monday night, when lows could drop into the teens, the forecast shows. Because Monday will be so cold, it could prolong the effects with a potential refreeze of any precipitation that melted, or lead to the forming of black ice.
Sunday and Monday mornings will bring the coldest temperatures with lows in the teens and wind chills in the single digits to below zero. There may be a brief window for snowfall early Sunday, but drier air will be pushing in and precipitation will be coming to an end around midday Sunday.
